What is Liquid Silicone Roof Coating?

A silicone roof coating system is a single layer (applied in one or two coats) of liquid silicone that’s rolled or sprayed on to fill in cracks, blisters, and seams in the roof. Silicone roof coatings create a roof membrane that is highly flexible, monolithic, and impermeable, capable of withstanding wind-driven sand, oxidation, and extreme weather conditions.

People choose liquid silicone roof coating because:

  • It is cost-saving (compared to roof removal and installation)

  • Extended roof life

  • Reduces energy expenses

  • Short project duration

Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.

Liquid Silicone & Roof Health

While liquid silicone is a great way to keep your roof in good shape, there are things to consider before coating your roof in silicone.

  • To be eligible for a silicone roof coating system, your roof needs to be:

    • Less than 25% saturated

    • Have seams that are in good/decent condition

    • Needs to have been maintained year after year

Don’t wait to see help once your roof is already leaking, this could prevent you from being able to use liquid silicone to protect your roof. To prevent the issue before it happens, one of our roofing specialists can perform a roof inspection to determine the health of your roof.

Questions To Ask Before Applying Liquid Silicone

In order to properly install liquid silicone coating, you need to ensure your roof is prepared correctly. Though application may seem similar to that of painting a wall, there are important questions to consider before applying liquid silicone to your roof.

  • Will the liquid silicone coating adhere correctly to your existing roof?

  • Do you need a primer prior to coating your roof?

  • What method should be used to coat your roof: roll or spray?

  • How thick does the coating application need to be in order to guarantee the manufacturer warranty?

  • Are the seams treated appropriately?
